Opening Prayer

All: Holy One, breath of the big bang, idea of creation, you who make spring come forth, who make life out of nothing, breathe yourself into us this day. Live in us anew: one Spirit, one flesh, many forms. Amen.

Prelude

Call to Worship
One
The Spirit of God has brought us here.

All:  The Lord has set us down here, though our bones are tired.
One: Can these dry bones live?
All:  Yes! The Breath of God will revive us! The Word of God will awaken us!
One: Today, we come together today to experience new life.
All:  Let us give thanks to the Life-Giving Spirit of God!

One: Yes! Let us worship God!

Hymn #286                 Breathe on Me, Breath of God

Prayer of Confession

AllLoving God, we know that in every generation you call forth prophets to proclaim your word. Yet we confess that we fail to hear your voice when it comes from an unexpected place. Convinced that we are right, we miss the Good News of your reconciling love. Forgive us, God. Restore us with humility and awaken us anew to your presence and your promise. Amen.

Prayer for Illumination

All: Loving God: As the Scriptures are read and the message delivered, may the authority of your Spirit bring understanding into our confused minds and truth into our troubled hearts, that we may praise and serve Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Affirmation of Faith ( from "The Westminster Confession of Faith" )

All: By the indwelling of the Holy Spirit all believers being vitally united to Christ, who is the Head, are thus united one to another in the Church, which is his body. He calls and anoints ministers for their holy office, qualifies all other officers in the Church for their special work, and imparts various gifts and graces to its members. He gives efficacy to the Word and to the ordinances of the gospel. By him the Church will be preserved, increased, purified, and at last made perfectly holy in the presence of God.

Hymn #280                    Come, O Spirit, Dwell Among Us

Prayer of Dedication

All: Bountiful God, we come with our offerings in response to your love. With the new life in Christ, we give ourselves in service to others. With the energy bestowed by the Spirit, we seek to inflame all your people with a zeal for your way. Receive the work we do, and the gifts we bring, that they may be a blessing in your sight. Amen.
