Opening Prayer

All: God of revelation, unveil your Kingdom in our midst. Show us who we truly are in you: expose the illusions that distort our vision, deliver us from temptations that contort our living, open our eyes in this time of trial – that resistance may be the secret of our joy and our joy a sign of your shalom. Amen.


                       

Call to Confession


Prayer of Confession 

All: Loving God, you know how easy it is for us to sit back and listen to the journey of Jesus from the Jordan to Jerusalem; from life and ministry to death. We would rather be observers than place ourselves on this journey. We don’t want to think about the many ways in which we have turned away from you and sought our own selfish desires. Forgive us and heal us, O Lord.  Give us courage to face our fears and faith to place our trust in your guiding mercy.  In Jesus’ Name, we pray.  Amen.


Assurance of Pardon



Prayer for Illumination

All: Send your Spirit among us, O God, as we meditate on the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Prepare our minds to hear your Word. Move our hearts to accept what we hear. Purify our will to obey in joy and faith. This we pray through Christ, our Savior. Amen.
